  • Inspecting the tyres. Ensure that the caravan's tyres are in both good condition and also have lots of tread. Leave yourself plenty of tolerance regarding the minimum legal tread depth.   • Inspecting the hitch. It's important that the hitch is in tip top order. If it's the type of hitch that needs grease, make sure that there's plenty there. Regular inspection of the hitch will help you to spot the early signs of rust. It's important that the breakaway cables can also do their job.

  • Clearly, the brakes need to be be in good condition. The brake cables need to be properly lubricated. Operating the handbrake should be easy and it shouldn't show signs of sticking. Brakes that have been left over the winter will need to be checked thoroughly.

  • It's a simple but important job to check the electrics and make sure they work. All you have to do is get the caravan hooked up and get a friend to check everything is working. Any bulbs that don't work will need to be replaced.
