Camping: Barbecue Tips

Camping and caravanning contains lots of perks and regular barbecued food is certainly one of these. Modern caravans for sale have very well equipped kitchens but nothing is as good as cooking food on a barbecue. One of the great things about barbecuing is it's simplicity but there are still certain things that can be done to improve it. Read on for some excellent barbecue tips.

Cooking on a Barbecue

  • There's plenty of caravan accessories that can be bought that help you with cooking on a barbecue. Essential tools include a spatula, a basting brush, tongs amongst other things. It's a good idea to keep a pair of heat proof gloves nearby in case you have to touch anything hot.

  • During the cooking process, sprinkling herbs on the hot coals is a great idea. This adds a great taste to the food and also repels insects.

  • To control the temperature of the charcoal, having a spray bottle of water nearby is a good idea. You should get a better result from the cooking if you can control the temperature. Regular basting of the food when it's on the grill will help to ensure it wont burn or dry out.

  • Do some planning in advance for your barbecue. Meat is a lot better for cooking when it's been marinated overnight. Turning the oven on in the caravan gives you a good place to keep food warm.

  • A good way to bake a jacket potato on a barbecue is to wrap it in tin foil and put it next to the charcoal. This should make the skin crispy and the potato will have some of the flavour of the barbecue. Prevent them from getting burned by turning them frequently.

  • Shelter the barbecue as best as you can from the wind. With a couple of days camping under your belt, you should have an idea of which way the wind blows. Use the terrain and any windbreaks you have to help achieve this.
